The Ultimate Corporate Challenge

  • Time Bond

Description

Place objects numbered 1-20 in a circle made from rope (or on a table, etc) to make your calculator.

Have the group stand “on base” in a different area 15-20 feet away from the calculator.

Explain to the group that they must start and finish on base. Once you say,”Go,” the group must run to the calculator and take turns pressing and saying aloud numbers 1-20 in order. Once they’ve reached 20, they must return to base. The timer starts when they leave base, and stops when the whole group has returned.

The group must work together to create an initial plan, and continue to refine their plan to improve their time.

Specific Rules:

The group must start and finish on base.

Everyone in the group must touch a number.

Only one person can touch each number

Everyone must remain on the outside of the calculator, and can only reach in to touch their number (ie, no stepping across, or standing inside)

Debriefing Questions:

Was the challenge more or less difficult than you originally thought?

How did refining your plan help you improve your time?

Who took a leadership role?

What things did you do as a team to accomplish this task?

  • Chain Reaction

Get caught up in a Chain Reaction. This invention based team building game asks participants to design and physically construct an intricate set of reactions using limited resources and time.

An introduction to the task emphasizes the importance of planning out a practical strategy early on in order to be able to manage people and resources efficiently.  Drawing heavily on projects management and collaborative problem solving skills – smaller working groups are used to tackle individual design component functions.

With the final goal of a spectacular cascading series of reactions, teams will need to design individual components with cause and effect in mind. The first team’s chain triggers the next team’s creation and the stage becomes set for a grand finale in the form of a gigantic cascading Chain Reaction across the event space.

Apart from developing importance competencies in planning, communication and teamwork the challenge can have an added competitive dimension by scoring teams on innovation and practicality.

Whether this it takes 2 hours or a whole day the Chain Reaction becomes the perhaps the ultimate team building exercise because it depends on the co-ordination of mini team events into one larger event.

End the event on a spectacular high and be sure to film the final Chain Event. Apart from being a great highlight video for attendees to enjoy later the video will serve as a powerful reminder of the collaborative outcomes of excellent planning and creativity.

  • Flat out bicycle

The Flat Out Formula 1 is an adrenaline-fueled team building tasks that challenges participants to build and race their very own bicycle.  Modeled after the pinnacle of racing engineering the team must communicate and collaborate to complete this almost full-scale bicycle.

Project Management skills play a central role during the very complex construction process as time and individual strengths are taken into account. Using detailed instructions the participants will convert a flat-pack materials kit into a fast and sleek machine.

Minor set-backs are inevitable, as are test-based modifications between practicing pit-stop changes and grid starts.

To add flair and reinforce the messages of the day each team will personalize their bicycle with unique designs that highlight company values and reinforce corporate/brand messages.

A race qualification follows to determine grid position before moving onto the exciting conclusion of the challenge: your company’s own gear prix! Team’s race and a champion emerge with a flourish of the chequered flag.

  • Raft Building

Flat Out – Afloat is a unique team building activity that celebrates overcoming the seemingly impossible. The challenge is inspired by a Norwegian ethnographer and adventurer named Thor Heyedahl. In 1947 he sailed a balsawood raft 4,300 miles from Peru to Polynesia to prove that ancient seafarers could survive long sea journeys. 101 days after launching the expedition he completed his journey and has inspired many.

Teams are presented with an outwardly impossible task: construct a seaworthy vessel in a short time with unlikely building materials. This inspirational corporate event helps teams to discover how innovation and the blending of skills from different individuals can make difficult tasks easier to achieve.

Can your team sail the high seas on the ship that teamwork built?

Essentially Flat Out – Afloat is a challenge that hinges on project management, group communication and keeping a cool head under pressure. Every team member has a role to play like Marketing team, finance team, design, quality control and the finale of the challenge involves the seemingly impossible: launching the newly completed crafts and keeping them afloat.

With a choice of race, regatta, sea battle or sunken treasure challenge the adventure unfolds on a place on a lake, pool or the open sea as a stunning conclusion to a rewarding day.

  • Flat out rickshaw

There’s nothing quite like a rickshaw rally to bring a team closer together. However, it’s not a simple as climbing aboard and pounding the roads. Teams taking part in this outdoor event will be tested to their limits and expected to demonstrate cohesive teamwork, strategy and planning skills and time management to build a cardboard constructed rickshaw that they will enter in to the race.

Teams are equipped with detailed plans and the equipment they need. It’s important that everyone puts their best foot forward as they will be transporting two “clients” through busy streets over flowing with people going about their business.

Teams will be allowed to make on the fly modifications to their rickshaw to ensure that their strategic planning doesn’t deviate from the norm. Additionally because you will want your “clients” travelling in style, the team will be able to get creative and decorate their vehicle to make it stand out from the crowd

The last leg of the team building challenge is a time trailed Rickshaw Derby through an obstacle course.

Successful teams will have shown they can meet deadlines, work under pressure, demonstrated contingency planning and keep clients happy.

  • Team Torque

There are few ways to bring people closer together than by building a wicked speed machine and pitting your team against each other, that’s why we came up with Team Torque. Perhaps you’d like to impress your clients with your engineering skills and a day at the race track or perhaps you would like to encourage some friendly in-house competition. The choice is yours!

To begin, each team completes tasks in order to win the necessary parts for construction. They must then set to work assembling and designing their model car, being sure to give it a unique and personal flavor.

Whatever your choice of companion/opponent, everyone will be expected to push the boundaries and think outside the box in order to deliver a truly unique race car that is fast and beautiful based on a strict budget and strict time limit. Company Brand and product placement can be added to your machine and it also comes highly recommended.

After the car has been completed the real fun can begin with the combined skills and competencies of every member of the team being showcased on the track with the mechanic being told to pump air that can reach incredible pressure in to the car that sends it fly from the start line. The farthest distance travelled is the victorious team

This high octane racing challenge can be played as a once off game or as a tournament in combination with other team building activities for companies or individual parties.

Team Alignment

  • Animated

Program Outline

Bringing business objectives, product launches and key messages to life in a fun way.

Are you familiar with stop motion animation? It’s the technique of moving an object in small increments between individually photographed frames to create the illusion of movement when the frames are played in a continuous sequence.

Animate is a fun and creative teambuilding event based around this amazing stop motion technology.

Groups are challenged to create a unique digital stop motion animation sequence based around a theme. Themes can be tailored to your team, project or business.

Animate commences with teams creating a ‘storyboard’ of the final desired outcome of their stop motion animation. The teams then, in their animation studio, take the objects of their animation and digitally record them moving through a series of small sequential steps. Once complete, the team plays back their video to see their stop motion animation story come to life, with rewarding and often hilarious results.

In Animate, everyone has a role to play. As any film maker will confirm, communication, planning and coordination are essential elements of film making. All great skills to enhance in your group!

Animate helps bring business objectives, product launches and key messages to life in a fun and thought provoking way. The theme sets the frame but the story/message options are limited only by the imagination of each team. As in the words of Frank Capra :

“There are no rules in filmmaking. Only sins. And the cardinal sin is dullness.”
